INTERNATIONAL ELECTIVES

Kiambu County, Kenya (flagship elective)

  • 4-week elective focused on care provision of children from disadvantaged backgrounds at all levels (i.e. primary and secondary) of care

  • Partnership with local government and 2020 MicroClinic Initiative, Inc

Rotation includes:

  • Ngenda Medical Hub and Community Medical Camp, are innovative programs developed by 2020 MicroClinic Initiatives, Inc. Through the Hub, families from rural communities are offered screenings, checkups and consultations free of charge. Services provided include medical screenings, health education, low-cost screening tests and medicines. Residents may also participate in community home visits in collaboration with Community Health Workers (CHWs).

  • Thika Level 5 District Hospital, the largest referral hospital in Kiambu County with a hospital-based ambulatory pediatric clinic. It has a census of 90 pediatric inpatients and 80 newborns daily. The hospital provides pediatric care services within the pediatric inpatient ward, which has 80 beds; the newborn unit, which has 40 beds and 6 incubators; and the maternal child health unit, which provides outpatient growth monitoring and immunizations to children aged 0-5 years.

Chennai, India; Tamil Nadu 

  • 4-week elective focused on inpatient and outpatient care provision of children from Southern region of India

  • Partnership with tertiary care, multispecialty children's hospital and other institutions and organizations. This rotation is more of an observership and provides educational opportunities to increase one's knowledge of tropical diseases and care management. 

Rotation includes:

  • Dr. Metha's Children's Hospitals, one of India's leading healthcare providers, with more than 80 years of experience in the field. It is a 250-bed multispecialty tertiary care hosptial with over 80 medical and surgical specialties and more than 500 leading clinicians.

      • MCH - General Pediatrics / Hematology 

      • MCH - General Pediatrics / Pulmonology
